Offline loyalty card: even without a network, you keep stamping

The shop’s Wi-Fi goes down, 4G doesn’t reach the market, the connection drops in the middle of the rush. Until now, all that was left was one sentence: “I’ll stamp it next time.”

With Cartia’s offline counter, you scan the card as usual. The visit is kept on your phone or tablet, then sent on its own as soon as the network returns. You have nothing to redo.

What happens when the network drops

  1. A red banner warns you

“Offline mode” appears at the top of the screen. You know right away that the network is down, without having to guess.

  2. You scan as usual

Same gesture as online: you scan the customer’s card, choose the number of stamps or points, and confirm.

  3. The visit waits on the device

It’s kept on the phone or tablet, with the exact time. The “Waiting to send” list shows what hasn’t gone out yet.

  4. The network returns, everything goes out

Without touching anything. Each visit is recorded at the time the customer came in, and their card updates in their phone.

What works without a network, and what waits

Works without a network

  • Crediting stamps or points, in any quantity
  • Removing a stamp given by mistake
  • Giving a reward
  • Scanning the card of any of your customers
  • Viewing the dashboard and customer records already opened on the device, as they were before the outage

Waits for the network to return

  • Changes in the dashboard: customers, campaigns, settings
  • Updating the card in the customer’s phone
  • Signing up a new customer with the shop’s QR code
  • Searching by name for a customer never opened on this device
  • Dashboard pages never opened on this device

And for your customer?

Nothing changes for them. Their card is in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and its QR code displays even when their phone has no network. They show it as usual.

Only one lag: the new stamp appears on their card when the network returns, not to the second. Apple and Google need internet to update a card.

If they ask, one sentence is enough:

“Got it, your card will update on its own.”

At the market, in a food truck or during a Wi-Fi outage? The step-by-step guide: Scan a loyalty card without a network

Nothing is lost, nothing is counted twice

Never counted twice
The network drops right as you confirm? You don’t know if the visit went out. It doesn’t matter: each visit carries a unique identifier, and Cartia never records it twice.
Checked like online
When the network returns, each visit goes through the same checks as a normal scan: card still active, subscription current, team member’s rights, enough balance for a withdrawal or a reward.
Rejections are shown to you
If a visit is refused, for example because the card was deleted in the meantime, it appears at the counter under “Rejected on sending,” with the reason. Nothing disappears without you knowing.
No deadline
Visits wait as long as it takes. The time of the visit is kept in the history if it’s sent within 7 days.
Protected on log-out
If visits remain to be sent, the counter warns you before you log out.

Frequently asked questions

The counter without a network, in questions

Does a digital loyalty card work without internet?

Yes, with the Pro and Business plans. When the network drops, you keep scanning cards at the Cartia counter: stamps, points, undoing a mistake, a reward. The visits are kept on your phone or tablet and go out on their own as soon as the network returns. The customer’s card updates in their phone at that point. The dashboard stays viewable as it was before the outage, for pages already opened on the device. The only condition: you must have opened the counter once with internet on the device. On the Free plan, the counter needs a connection. As far as we know, Cartia is the only French solution offering this: as of October 23, 2026, none of the fifteen others we track shows an offline counter on its website.

What happens if I credit a card that no longer exists?

When the network returns, Cartia refuses that visit and shows it at the counter, under “Rejected on sending,” with the reason. Nothing is credited for it, and nothing disappears without you knowing.

How long can visits wait?

As long as it takes: they stay on the device until the network returns. If they’re sent within 7 days, the history keeps the time of the visit; beyond that, the arrival time is recorded.

Can I give a reward without a network?

Yes. If the card has already been opened on the device, the counter knows its last balance. Otherwise, look at the customer’s card on their phone: you can give the reward, and Cartia checks the balance when the network returns.

Can I view my dashboard without a network?

Yes, read-only. Pages already opened on the device stay viewable as they were before the outage: the home page, your customer list, the customer records you’ve opened. A red banner shows the date of that data. Changes wait for the network to return, and a page never opened on the device can’t display.

What about the Free plan?

On the Free plan, the counter needs internet to record a visit. Without a network, the red banner appears and the visit isn’t kept. The offline counter is part of the Pro and Business plans, 14-day trial included.

Do I need to install an app?

No. The offline counter works in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer, and from the home-screen icon. Your customers install nothing either.

The offline counter is included in Pro and Business

Nothing to turn on, nothing to install: once you’ve opened the counter once with internet, it keeps working when the network drops.
