Digital loyalty card for pizzerias

The 11th free, without the piece of cardboard cut from the box.

A pizzeria has the advantage of an even ticket: the stamp per order is almost always the right setting. The QR code is presented at payment — at the pickup counter or in the dining room with the check. Cartia doesn’t plug into any delivery platform.

Free plan: up to 50 customers, no credit card.

The short answer

What kind of loyalty program works for a pizzeria?

A pizzeria has the advantage of an even ticket: one pizza, sometimes two. A stamp per visit (or per pizza, your call) is understood in a second. It’s the business where “the 10th free” needs no explaining.

The paper card goes in the box, gets stained, gets thrown out. The digital card stays. In the dining room, the QR code goes on the table or the check. For takeout, it goes on the counter — not printed inside every box: nobody scans a greasy box.

Nothing to install. Wallet. At the Friday rush, the scan has to fit in while the register hands back change.

The problem

No more cardboard scraps cut from pizza boxes

The 10th pizza free, everyone gets it. The card just has to be in the phone, not at the bottom of the takeout box.

  • Friday night

One scan, one stamp. No paper card to look for while six orders ring.

  • Takeout

The card is no longer in the box. It’s in the phone, at the next visit.

  • For the pizzeria

You see who really makes your week, beyond the faces at the register.

  • The paper card

The paper card goes in the trash with the packaging, or it gets forged. You have no customer list, no Sunday-night reminder.

  • With Cartia

The Wallet pass is much harder to fake than a paper card, and it’s always on hand at pickup.

The recommended program

How many pizzas before giving one away?

The classic 10 holds, because a pizza’s margin allows it.

Say a €12 pizza with €2.50 in ingredients — replace with your own figure. By the 10th visit: €120 in sales, €2.50 in cost, around 2%. Going down to 8 brings the reward closer without breaking the margin.

One rule. Not “except the €18 pizzas”: it gets argued at the counter on Friday.

Visits or points: which to choose

  • Stamps / visits

Stamps per order. One pizza, sometimes two: the gap stays small, and “the 10th free” needs no explanation.

  • Points on spend

Points, if you have a real menu beside the pizzas — starters, desserts, drinks, family meals — and the ticket varies from simple to triple.

Stamps, unless group orders for several people are a big share of your business.

The 11th pizza, the rule everyone knows

10 pizzas purchased. The 11th Margherita or ham-and-mushroom pizza, free.

Setting up

Set up your loyalty card at your pizzeria

  • Keep “the Xth pizza free”

Don’t complicate it. It’s the rule customers repeat to their kids on their own.

  • Eight to ten pizzas

A Friday regular gets there in two months. Visible enough for them to think about it when ordering.

  • QR code at the register, not in the box

In the dining room, a table tent or the check. For takeout, the counter. The inside of the box can’t be scanned.

  • Scan at checkout

From Cartia Counter. Shorter than handing over change.

The scan at order pickup

  • At the counter

The scan fits in at the counter while the box goes out. Nothing to stamp on the cardboard.

  • In the Wallet, not in an app

The card sits next to the bank card, in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The customer scans the QR code, fills in a short form, and adds it — there is no app to install.

In your business, concretely

Dining room, takeout, delivery: three channels, two where the card exists

A pizzeria often sells through three channels, but Cartia only covers those where you face the customer: the dining room and counter pickup. In both cases, the scan happens at payment, on the pass already in the phone. An order placed on a delivery platform, on the other hand, can’t credit the card: we aren’t connected to any of those platforms, and claiming otherwise wouldn’t last a week in service.

That’s not necessarily a limit. The customers who come to pick up their order are the ones who bring you the most per pizza, and they are exactly the ones a loyalty program has an interest in retaining.

  • Counter pickupThe best moment: the customer is waiting for their order and has their phone in hand. Sign-up happens during the wait, the scan at payment.
  • The dining roomThe QR code comes with the check, as in a restaurant. Not on the table at the start of the meal, where it gets forgotten.
  • Slow eveningsFrom Pro, you can send a notification to your already signed-up customers’ Wallet card to liven up the start of the week. It’s communication to existing customers, not acquisition, and nothing goes out unless you’ve decided it.

The calculation

How many extra orders would cover the subscription?

With the assumptions below — €26 ticket, 70% gross margin — 2 extra orders per month would cover the monthly cost of the Pro plan. Only orders paid at your own register count: those placed through a delivery platform don’t credit the card.

Adjust my assumptions

If 10% of visits repeat one more time thanks to the card · €18.20 margin per order

With these assumptions, the break-even point is

2 orders / month

Beyond this threshold, the margin generated would cover the cost of the Pro plan. Formula: plan price ÷ (average basket × gross margin) = €29.90 ÷ €18.20.

  • +1,560orders over the year
  • €3,380more revenue each month, with this assumption
  • €0.98per day for the Pro subscription

Illustrative estimate, not a revenue promise. Starting assumptions at your pizzeria: average ticket €26, 70% gross margin, 26 days open per month. Cartia measures neither your revenue nor your return on investment: replace these values with your own.

Frequently asked questions

Replacing the paper card at your pizzeria

How do I set up a loyalty card at a pizzeria?

You create the program, put the QR code at the register (and in the dining room if you serve at tables), and validate each visit from a phone. Your customers install nothing.

Dining room and takeout: the same program?

Yes. It’s the same card. The QR code just moves: table or check in the dining room, counter for takeout. Not inside the box.

Does it slow down Fridays?

Scanning a card that already exists fits in while you hand back change. Signing up happens on the customer’s phone.

Do my customers have to download an app?

No. They scan the QR code at the counter, join the program from their browser, then add their card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. No app to install.

How much does a loyalty card for a pizzeria cost?

Cartia is free up to 50 customers at one location, no credit card required. Beyond that, the Pro plan is €29.90/month, tax included, with unlimited customers and a 14-day free trial (credit card required to start it), with no setup fees and no per-volume billing.
