Digital loyalty card for florists

Every season brings an occasion. You need a way to say so.

At a florist, loyalty isn’t built on frequency but on occasions: birthdays, holidays, bereavements, treats. Points on spend are almost always fairer than the stamp. The QR code is presented at the register, during payment.

Free plan: up to 50 customers, no credit card.

The short answer

What kind of loyalty program works for a florist?

A florist isn’t a daily drop-in business. People come in for a Thursday, a birthday, a Sunday — and above all for the dates on the calendar: Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas. Ten stamps is too slow: the program is forgotten before it’s finished. The right lever is points on spend, or a low threshold for farmers market regulars.

There is a moment when the card isn’t offered: a bereavement, a funeral order. The QR code stays at the register for the rest of the flow. Forcing the program there means losing the customer for good.

For the other visits: QR code at the register, Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, no app. A week before a holiday, with the Pro plan, a push notification on their phone — not a text message. The sign-up form carries a date of birth: that’s a florist’s real tool, more than a stamp.

The problem

On an impulse buy, the customer never has their paper card

Your customers don’t come in every morning. A “10 visits” stamp card would take a year. Points on what they spend work — and the date of birth you collect finally gets used.

  • At the register

The customer waits while you finish the bouquet. That’s the dead time for scanning — not the sidewalk in the rain.

  • From one holiday to the next

Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, then six quiet weeks. The paper card got lost. The phone didn’t.

  • For the shop

You know who really buys, and on which dates. The anonymous paper card never told you.

  • The paper card

The bouquet leaves, the card stays at home. You lose the thread between two seasons.

  • With Cartia

The Wallet pass is added at the moment the purchase gesture is already there, without going through an app store.

The recommended program

Stamps or points at a florist?

If your customers come once a month, a 10-visit stamp card asks for almost a year. Too long.

In points: say €1 = 1 point, reward at 80 points. A €40 bouquet earns 40 points. Two orders and the reward is in sight — it’s up to you to set the threshold according to your basket.

Reward: a seasonal bunch, not the arrangement from the catalog. Controlled ingredient cost, a florist’s gesture, not a money-off discount that argues with your prices.

Visits or points: which to choose

  • Stamps / visits

Stamps, only if you have a real clientele of weekly-bouquet regulars — a real case, but a minority one.

  • Points on spend

Points, in most shops: between a €10 bouquet and a ceremony arrangement, a single stamp makes no sense.

Points. It’s the trade on the list where the gap between two purchases by the same customer is the most unpredictable.

A plant or a bouquet, not an abstract discount

6 stamps (1 stamp from €20 of purchases). An indoor plant or a seasonal bouquet worth €15, free.

What you can send next, from the Pro plan

Send a push alert the day before Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day to take orders ahead of time.

Setting up

Set up your loyalty card at your flower shop

  • Choose points, not ten stamps

€1 spent = 1 point, unless you have a real flow of Saturday regulars (then a low stamp threshold, 6 to 8, can hold).

  • Don’t offer the card on a funeral order

The QR code stays visible for the normal flow. On a funeral order, you take payment; you don’t enroll.

  • QR code on the register counter

While you’re composing, the customer has their hands free. In the window, they already have the bouquet.

  • Validate at checkout

Scan from Cartia Counter. Points follow the ticket, not “one visit = one stamp,” which ignores a €80 bouquet.

  • Remind before the dates, not after

A week before Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day: a push notification. Not a text message, not an automatic calendar. You choose the day, you send it.

The scan while the bouquet is being wrapped

  • At the counter

The customer’s hands are busy with the bouquet. The phone is enough, the paper card isn’t.

  • In the Wallet, not in an app

The card sits next to the bank card, in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The customer scans the QR code, fills in a short form, and adds it — there is no app to install.

In your business, concretely

People don’t buy flowers out of habit, they buy them for a date

Most loyalty programs assume a frequency. A florist doesn’t have one, or rather has one that doesn’t belong to them: the one set by their customers’ dates. The same customer can buy nothing for four months and then come in three times in three weeks because there was a birthday, a birth and a dinner. Building a threshold on an assumed frequency means writing a promise the trade won’t keep.

The other constraint is margin, which moves with supply and season. A reward expressed as a product — “a free bouquet” — commits you to a cost you don’t control at the moment you announce it. A reward expressed as a value or a tight format holds up much better.

  • A reward that survives the seasonPrefer a precise format (an arrangement of a given type, an amount off) to an open promise. You stay in control of the cost when flower prices move.
  • Your customers’ datesThe sign-up form can carry a date of birth. It’s probably the most useful piece of information in the whole trade — and the one a paper card could never give you.
  • The commercial momentsMother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas: from Pro, you can send a notification to your signed-up customers’ Wallet card ahead of a date. It’s a campaign you prepare and trigger, not an automatic reminder.

The calculation

How many extra sales would cover the subscription?

With the assumptions below — €28 basket, 60% gross margin — 2 extra sales per month would cover the monthly cost of the Pro plan. A florist’s margin moves with the season: that slider is the first one to correct.

Adjust my assumptions

If 10% of visits repeat one more time thanks to the card · €16.80 margin per bouquet

With these assumptions, the break-even point is

2 bouquets / month

Beyond this threshold, the margin generated would cover the cost of the Pro plan. Formula: plan price ÷ (average basket × gross margin) = €29.90 ÷ €16.80.

  • +562bouquets over the year
  • €1,310more revenue each month, with this assumption
  • €0.98per day for the Pro subscription

Frequently asked questions

Replacing the paper card at your flower shop

How do I set up a loyalty card at a florist?

You create a program, preferably in points, place a QR code at the register, and validate each ticket from a phone. Your customers install nothing.

Why not a 10-visit stamp card?

Because your customers don’t come in often enough. Ten visits is often more than a year. Points on spend move the card forward from the first sizable bouquet.

Do I have to offer the card to everyone?

No. On a funeral order, you don’t enroll. The QR code stays for the usual flow: market, holidays, birthday orders.

How do I remind customers before Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day?

From the Pro plan, you send a push notification to their phone. Not a text message, not a WhatsApp: no message credits to top up. A week before the date, not the morning of. It isn’t a scheduling tool: you write it, you target it, you send it.

Do my customers have to download an app?

No. They scan the QR code at the counter, join the program from their browser, then add their card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. No app to install.

How much does a loyalty card for a florist cost?

Cartia is free up to 50 customers at one shop, no credit card required. Beyond that, the Pro plan is €29.90/month, tax included, with unlimited customers and a 14-day free trial (credit card required to start it), with no setup fees and no per-volume billing.
